Ariana Grande, one of pop’s biggest female icons of today, just released a new single “thank u, next” Nov. 3, 2018.

Contrary to what some people may think, the song is the complete opposite of a diss track. The song expresses her gratitude, appreciation and forgiveness for her past relationships. Grande isn’t shy with names and references her old flames Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez, ex fiancé Pete Davidson, and recently deceased Mac Miller. She warmly sings “I wish I could say thank you to Malcolm ‘cause he was an angel,” as a touching message about Miller.

Essentially, the song is very focused with the lyrics accompanied by a girlish and catchy chorus. Grande sings sweetly in the build up of the chorus, “One taught me love, one taught me patience, one taught me pain,” directly addressing specific exes with each line. The song explains Grande’s discoveries and journey as a woman.

Overall, the track is a brilliant new twist on a break up song. The song is inspiring, especially to those who have experienced relationship difficulties. Instead of bad blood, a positive attitude is displayed. Grande’s words further prove that love heals all wounds.
