Humans of Howell: Hailey Murphy

Seen at the age of three drawing fireworks, senior Hailey Murphy was destined to create art with a message. Murphy can be found in any art room at Howell, for her artistic abilities range from painting and drawing, to sculpting and ceramics. “My art is based on the white elephant in the room like drugs or mental illness,” Murphy said. “Things that make people uncomfortable.” Murphy has also displayed some of her work in art shows, winning her second place in the Lindenwood Art Show in 2016. “Some of my work I’ve actually sold and made money off of it.” Murphy said. Realizing there’s monetary value to her art, Murphy decides to turn her gift into a career. “I want to be an art therapist,” Murphy said. “I can help people while doing what I love.” Murphy will further her plans at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona.
