“Empty Bowls” Raises Money for Charity

Eager basketball fans held steaming homemade soup in hand-crafted bowls outside the varsity basketball game Dec. 15 to help raise money for the OASIS Food Pantry. This is the second year the Art Department has been holding the Empty Bowl drive and the money raised exceeded $250.

The Ceramics club and classes made glazed bowls to sell for $5, while FCCLA made the soup with a side of warm bread.

“After singing the national anthem with the choir at the basketball game, I sat down and bought a bowl,” junior Gillian Steeno said. “The soup was amazing and I loved that the clubs are getting awareness out there. Every little bit counts and helps out the efforts.”

“I loved trying out different techniques when shaping the bowls,” senior Kirsty Ann Cole said. “Knowing that people would be enjoying what I made was amazing, and that all my hard work would be for a greater cause was even better.”
