Boys track takes first in GAC’s for the first time since 1997

Howell’s track program faced off in the GAC’s May. 5. With the girls team placing 2nd and the boys team winning the conference for the first time since 1997.

“We’ve been talking about wanting to win conferences since the start of last year, and we knew we were going to have to win it this year,” senior Jake Donelly said. “It was and incredible feeling being on the team as a senior winning the title

The boys track program is currently ranked top in the state and has broken six school records over the course of the season. Four of the records were broken by senior Bryce Kazmaier.

“It feels pretty amazing to have achieved so many of my goals for the season and break some records while I’m at it.” Kazmaier said. “It was especially cool to break some of the long standing records that haven’t been touched in so long.”

The track program will move onto districts May. 15.

“The team has come a long way from when I started as a freshman. Now we have shifted our focus to state because we all knew we were going to win GAC’s,” Donelly said.
