Girl’s Swim Team Preview
New semester, new coach, new season for the girl’s swim team. Their first meet was Nov. 30, and they won a Tri Meet against Howell North and Pattonville. The girls came in eighth at the Marquette Relays.
“At both meets our team performed extremely well and that is the only thing that matters to me,” Coach Ethan Goldfarb said.
Jan. 5, the team has their first invitational, held at and against Ft. Zumwalt North.
High school coaching is new to Goldfarb, but he isn’t the only one who’s fresh off the boat. Eleven freshmen girls are joining the team, making up nearly half the roster.
“I have high hopes in particular for Paige Schulze, Abby Ekstrom, and Caitlin Mattingly,” Goldfarb said.
Goldfarb’s confidence is high, especially for his team captains and overall season performance.
“Our focused and disciplined returners have shown a lot of leadership, most notably captains Hayden Bissell and Mary Todd,” Goldfarb said. “All I know is that the attitudes and skills of our athletes demonstrate a lot of potential for success in both swimming and life.”
The team’s GAC championship is Feb. 5, location and time to be decided. Performance isn’t a worry.
“As long as they continue to show progress toward that potential, I’m not especially concerned with wins and losses,” Goldfarb said.
