DECA Fall Leadership Conference
DECA president Jack Silver will attend the DECA Fall Leadership Conference at the Lake of the Ozarks. This conference takes place during fall break, where Silver, instead of vacationing, will be campaigning for Vice President of Communications for Missouri DECA.
“This will be my second year participating in DECA,” Silver said. “DECA is a club that prepares emerging leaders for jobs in the real world while also building lifelong connections in and around the club.”
Silver made it past the districts in fifth place as a junior and moved on to the state competitions.
“The state competitions were held at the Crown Center Plaza over in Kansas City,” Silver said. He participated in the Business Finance Individual event at Districts.
DECA’s next big trip is the Fall Leadership Conference.
“The purpose of this conference is to elect the State Action Team for the state of Missouri and preparing members for the upcoming DECA season with guest speakers and special events,” Silver said. “This is a statewide conference where all 12 DECA districts in Missouri will be attending.”
“Francis Howell has not attended this conference every year,” sponsor Larry Anders said. “Mainly due to the fact that this conference usually falls during fall break, and the cost of attendance which is $200.”
Anders also mentioned that, “there are many other opportunities that Howell DECA can participate in, such as other district wide meetings, and there are only certain ones we can attend in any given year.”
With two candidates running for a statewide office, Howell will be there.
“Ten students in the past 10 years have run for a state office but only four have been elected to an office throughout those years,” Anders said. Anders has been involved in DECA for 31 years.
This overnight, two-day event occurs October 14-15 at the Four Seasons Country Club.
