On Sept. 7, Insomniac Games released their much-anticipated game on the PlayStation 4, Spider-Man. The game was announced during Sony’s E3 2016 press conference on June 13.

   Before the release date, it was expected that the game would make $198 million in sales opening weekend. Come Tuesday, Sept. 11, the game had sold 3.3 million copies in just three days, breaking the previous record of 3.1 million set by God of War on April 23.

   The game follows the established character of Peter Parker and his secret identity of Spider-Man but takes the well-known story and puts Peter Parker in his early twenties. Insomniac brings in some of Spider-Man’s well-known villains like Rhino, Electro, Shocker, Kingpin, and Scorpion. Although the game has these popular villains, Insomniac also introduced players to Mr. Negative, a relatively new character within the Spider-Man comics.

   Spider-Man allows players to explore the expansive world of New York City, fighting crime as Spidey as well as following the games involved storyline. Although the games main focus is Peter Parker/Spider-Man, the player also gets the chance to play with different characters as the game progresses, including a few surprise characters.

   During gameplay, players are able to see the many different combat actions Insomniac as created for Spider-Man, showing off the versatility of the character. Most of the game is combat heavy but players will be able to enjoy the stealth aspect that comes with any Spider-Man game.

   With a 20 hour gameplay time, the game doesn’t end with the storyline. After players beat the game, they’re allowed to explore the open world of New York and do side missions as well as games to challenge their skills as the web-slinger.

   Having Sony and Insomniac team up to create a new Spider-Man game was not a mistake. The game does a wonderful job depicting an older Peter Parker as well as Spider-Man. With a price of $60, Insomniac’s Spider-Man is more than worth the price tag.
