Connor Hutchison
Bruce Willis, Howie Mandel, and Vin Diesel all have something in common with sophomore Connor Hutchison. All are bald. However Hutchison is 15 years-old. One might think he is suffering from a deadly disease. However, this is far from the truth.
“I suffer from alopecia. This disease makes me unable to have any hair. My immune system attacks my hair follicles, stopping them from growing any hair,” Hutchison said.
This disease does not stop Hutchison living his life like any other teen.
“I do not feel different than any other kid at this school, and no one treats me different for not having hair,” Hutchison said.
Hutchison plays on the school’s hockey club.
“I am the goalie I like this position because it makes me feel like I can save the game every time the other team tries to shoot the puck in our net,” Hutchinson said.
Alopecia is an autoimmune disease that doesn’t affect a person’s life span or their quality of life. Hutchinson plans to attend college after high school.
“I’m not sure what college I want to go to just yet, but I know I want to do something with computers or cars,” Hutchison said.
In Hutchinson’s free time he likes to make websites and invent new apps. Hutchinson also sometimes uses his disease as an advantage.
“As a kid I would take my hat off during baseball games or hockey games so the players would think I was sick. They would feel bad and give me a baseball or a puck, Hutchinson said. Now when I go to games I do the same thing, except I like to give it to kids. It makes them really happy.”
