Q&A with HOSA president senior Allison Foster

Q: What are your responsibilities as president of HOSA?

A: As president, I run both the general meetings and I’m in charge of taking the ideas that our officers come up with and executing them. Recent ideas included getting sponsors for the balloon pop we just had and finding speakers for our meetings.

Q: Explain what HOSA is

A: HOSA is the pre-health club. It’s similar to DECA and FBLA in that it is a nationwide competition, but we focus on the sciences and health professions. We compete, have fundraisers for charities like the Leukemia and Lymphoma society, and host events for career exploration. Some of our events include having guest speakers. In a few weeks, we’re going to tour the cadaver lab at Logan Chiropractic.

Q: How were you chosen as president?

A: I wrote a speech and was elected.

Q: Why’d you choose to run for president?

A: I’ve always been interested in becoming a doctor and this is a way to share the knowledge I’ve accumulated over time doing research at Mini Med programs.

Q: Why should people join HOSA?

A: HOSA is a great community of people that want to positively impact their community. It’s a great opportunity to compete and explore careers, while having fun.
