The glove drive for Ferguson held by the senior class officers wraps up, Oct. 9. Throughout the week, students donated gloves, hats, and other winter wear in second hour.
“It’s to benefit disadvantaged children in Ferguson, which is really close to home,” senior class secretary Evan Johnson said.
A charity drive run by the senior class is a yearly tradition.
“We wanted to be an example to the rest of the classes and leave our mark,” Johnson said. “I think helping those less advantaged than us is one of the best things one can do to better their community, and themselves.”
Caught up in the aftermath of the riots last year, many Ferguson families struggle in poverty.
“I came up with the idea after the administrators asked the senior class officers to organize some sort of charitable effort,” Johnson said. “I kept thinking about those disadvantaged children so close to home whose families can’t even afford necessities like gloves. They would suffer during the winter months just waiting for the bus. Thankfully, we can do something about it.”
