Band Performs Special Show for Senior Night

While the football team prepares to take on Troy for Senior Night Oct. 9 at 7, the marching band plans to honor their seniors as well. Aside from the usual escorted walk and recognition, the band has a few unique traditions.

The festivities begin before the game, as the senior band members play the national anthem. Following this, the band, along with the football team, cheerleaders, and Golden Girls, partake in the traditional senior procession. The senior band members received medals.

What sets band’s senior night apart is everything that happens later on. During their usual halftime performance, seniors wear white plumes and leave their shoes on the field.

“We get to stand out,” senior Alexa Jones said. “We wear crazy socks that can be seen under our uniforms.”

The truly unique part of the marching band’s senior night happens after the game, surrounded by band members and parents. The Senior Run-Through. As tribute to the four years seniors have put into the band program, they put on a special performance: a musical montage of past shows.

“It’s always a fun way to end the season and reflect on the four years we’ve put into the program,” Jones said.

The Senior Run-Through takes weeks of practice to bring together.

“There’s a lot of coordinating we have to do to make everything go smoothly,” Jones said. “We had a handful of extra rehearsals where we planned the parts we wanted to play for our run-through. It took a long time, and we ended up having to change it at the last minute, but I feel like what we came up with is awesome.”

The Run-Through will take place after the football game in the gym.

“I feel like the band’s quirky traditions do a lot to honor the seniors and make them feel special,” Jones said. “Plus we get cake.”
