Sept 22 and 23 varsity girls tennis hosted GACs. Overall, the team got 2nd place falling behind Howell North. However, the team was still represented, with all five doubles teams as well as all eight singles receiving medals.
“The GACs tournament was exciting,” freshman Kennidy Shirey said. “I loved getting to play against a variety of teams in singles and doubles.”
Shirey is ranked at 3 and placed 2nd in both events.
GACs marked the end of the season for Silver Varsity players.
“I knew I had to play hard this tournament because it was my last chance to play this season,” junior Veronica Schroeder said. “My doubles partner Annie Sudhakaran and I defeated Howell North in the championship match. Winning it felt awesome because North was the only team we lost to in the regular season.”
In addition to placing in GACSs Gold Varsity took on Fort Zumwalt East Oct 1 in the district finals. Howell won 5-0.
“I worked really hard over the summer to make it to number 5 in the team,” senior Olivia Biele said. “During districts the doubles match was intense and really close. I am so glad my partner Jess Martin and I won 8-6.”
The team will advance to team sectionals Oct 10 against Marquette as well as compete in individual districts Oct. 3.
