On the way home from school, Jan. 20, you may have noticed the multiple fires occurring across Highway 94 from Howell. These were prescribed burns put in place by Busch Wildlife. Prescribed burns, also known as controlled burns, are set with specific guidelines in place to prevent the fire from becoming out of control. Prescribed burns are used to control shrub and tree growth along reservoirs. They can also be used to eliminate the plants growing currently in order to replace them with some sort of crop. Busch Wildlife will be conducting another controlled burn today, Jan 28.
