Howell defeated the Jefferson City Jays, 61-49, Jan. 10, to solidify the Kaminsky Classic championship for the first time in 11 years.
Jeff City jumped out early on the Vikings with a 14-4 lead in the first quarter. Howell closed the gap with a 4-0 run late in the quarter, cutting the deficit to six. The second quarter was full of excitement when the Vikings went of a 13-3 run with two minutes left. Junior Clayton Ambrose capped the first half with a three point shot at the buzzer, going into the locker room ahead for the first time all game.
Howell came back ready to fight, going on a 10-0 in the first three minutes of the second half. The Jays found themselves in a 17 point hole quickly.
The fourth quarter was consistent for the Vikings and the Jays, despite the efforts of their outside shooters, could not catch up.
Junior Brett Elifritz led the team with 15 points, and junior Colton White and senior Sam Hefner closely followed, each scoring 13. Elifritz, White, and Hefner all received All-Tournament awards, along with Jeff City’s senior OG Anunoby.
Howell’s is currently on a seven game winning streak after defeating the Jays, with a record of 10-4.
