Students are lending themselves to serve the community in selfless ways, as both individuals and as a part of clubs.“We decided to do the canned food drive because we realized that there are a lot of people out there that cannot afford proper food and we wanted to help,” STUCO officer Sandeep Bhangu said.Recognizing the need and paying it forward to others is not only reaped by those receiving, but also by those that are giving back.“One of National Honor Society’s character traits is service. We participate in food and toy drives to serve the community that we live in. Those drives help those who are in need and we enjoy being able to do what we can to help everyone have a wonderful holiday season,” National Honor Society Sponsor Kathy Stotts said. When families are come up short financially and are attempting to make ends meet, the holidays can also be ideal times to volunteer.
“We do it around Thanksgiving because we don’t want anyone to go hungry around the holidays. We just do the food drive to help others because we know we are blessed with so much and we have the opportunity to give back and we should use it,” said Bhangu.
