The lights dimmed, and nothing but a single spotlight shined on stage.

Drama Club held callbacks for their upcoming play, The Comedy of Errors, in the auditorium, August 24.

“Since you’re using part of the actual script, you really have to make it count,” sophomore Jack McCarthy said.

Drama department head, Mr. Mueller, assigned every person a section of the script to read on stage. Each student had five beforehand to look over their part and form a character they felt was appropriate for each scene.

“I got a knot in my stomach every time my name was called,” junior Cidney Woodson said. “I didn’t feel as prepared, so when I would go on stage, I felt a little choked up.”

The fall play is by William Shakespeare, which many club members were not familiar with. Speaking in Elizabethan English came as a challenge to some, but was eventually overcome.

“For the most part, I wasn’t entirely too sure what to say. But after practicing for a little while, I had become familiar with most of the words, and it became more fun,” Woodson said.
