Football Team Prepares for Fall Season

With last year’s final four seniors gone, the varsity football team has stepped up its game in order to prepare for the new season.
“Our football team has a relentless work ethic. We constantly have the drive to get better everyday. All our players have a true passion to be better men,” Coach Bryan Koch said.
By working hard and preparing in the off season, the team feels they are ready to go.
“We had workouts everyday except on the weekends. I’d say we’re more than ready for the season,” varsity football captain Jarrett Franklin said.

The team works hard on all aspects of their game so that their name will be known.

“Our team is going to be the team to watch. Our defense and offense are doing incredibly well, but especially our defense,” Koch said.

The specialty teams are kickoff, kickoff return, punt,  punt return, extra point field goal, and field goal block.

“We train as many players that aren’t starters on our special teams to get as much experience as possible,” Koch said.

While training the boys also work on their defense.

“For our defense, we want to be the most physical team out there,” Koch said.

Along with working at the Howell field, quarterback Brett Siebenshuh trained at camps to amp up his game.

“I went to the HSPD national seven on seven tournament. I was a once in a lifetime experience. I played with people that were already signed to big league schools. It was amazing knowing I was good enough to be with these players and practice with them,” Siebenshuh said.

The boys are ready to play any team.

“The Vikings play hard whistle to whistle. We have a very high chance to compete at the highest level as long as we stay healthy, we focus, and we take each day one step at a time,” Koch said.
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, the varsity team is ranked in the top ten high school teams in the state.
