Sorry it has been a bit since my last post but these last couple of weeks have been nuts. I had my culinary competition on the 15th; we received a dismal second place. I am still recuperating from the slight blow to my ego but, in the end, it was a great experience and taught me a lot about team work, time management and culinary techniques.
To add to the mayhem and madness that is my life, on Wednesday of last week my oven broke. The heating coil melted some how and at the moment we are oven-less. Thankfully, our stove top is still completely functional so I pulled out my Emeril cookbook and found a recipe for Spanish french toast or Torrijas.
I’m not the biggest fan of french toast no matter how you slice it. The weird contradicting textures of the crunchy outside and kind of soggy inside does not agree with me and I’m not much of a breakfast girl in the first place. Unfortunately, this was the only recipe I could find that could be cooked on the stove top that I was willing to give a try.
Overall the flavor was pretty good and was a quick and easy dish to make. My little brother really enjoyed it which is always a good thing seeing as he’s the pickiest eater I’ve ever known, so I’d say this dish was a success.
5 weeks down 4 to go!
