~FHSD to Host Raising Healthy Kids – A Free Educational Parent Event on 11/10/11

The Francis Howell School District is holding Raising Healthy Kids, a free evening event for parents designed to share information on the challenges of raising healthy and responsible children and adolescents. The event will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2011 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Saeger Middle School located at 5201 Highway N in Cottleville.

Attendees will be able to choose two informational sessions from offerings presented by local child and adolescent experts, law enforcement officials, and area community organizations. Before and after the sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to enter to win raffle prizes, chat informally with presenters, and visit booths to pick up information from a variety of community social service agencies. Raffle prizes will be awarded at the end of the evening.

Plan to attend this FREE event filled with speakers discussing current issues facing today’s parents and youth from pre-school through high school. No registration necessary. Click here for more information and session details.

 

~The Francis Howell Band Boosters are sponsoring a Trivia Night on Saturday, November 12, 2011.It will be held at the Trigg Banquet Center in O’Fallon 300 O’Fallon Plaza, O’Fallon, MO 63366 The doors open at 6:30pm. ~The FHHS Guidance Department would like to invite freshmen and sophomore students and parents to Early College Awareness Night on Tuesday, November 15that 7pm in the FHHS Auditorium.  Come find out what you can do now to get ready for your college education!

~Congratulations to the Viking football team for capturing theMSHSAA Sectional championship.  Howell will now host the MSHSAA Quarter Final game against Fort Zumwalt West on Friday, November 11 at 7:00 pm.  Please note some specific information:

  1. This is a MSHSAA event.  No student, staff, district, or senior passes are permitted.
  2. Admission for all is $6.
  3. The activities office will be pre-selling admission tickets beginning Wednesday before school, between classes, and after school until 3:00 pm.
  4. Free shuttle service will be provided from the commuter lots off 64/40 and 94 beginning at 5:30 pm and running continuously until all shuttle riders have been returned to the commuter lots following the game.  PLEASE CONSIDER THIS SERVICE TO HELP ALLEVIATE POTENTIAL PARKING ISSUES.
  5. For the best event experience, please consider the following:
    1. Buy your ticket during pre-selling beginning Wednesday.
    2. Plan to use the free shuttle service.
    3. Plan to arrive early to avoid missing any of the contest.

~Hear Ye, Hear Ye: The Francis Howell HS Choirs will be holding their highly acclaimed Madrigal Dinner Theater on Dec. 9 & 10, 2011 in the FHHS Commons. Come join us as we celebrate the holidays themed in Renaissance England with wonderful singing, great food and entertainment by the choir students of the FHHS. Admission for the 3-course dinner and show is $20 for Adults and $15 for Students.  Forms are available atwww.fhhschoir.org. The Francis Howell High School Band Boosters would like to invite you to our Second Annual Arts & Craft Fair on Saturday, December 3, 2011 from 9 AM to 4 PM at Francis Howell Middle School (located at 825 O’Fallon Road in Weldon Spring).  Last year we hosted over 100 crafters and 20 home party vendors.  There is something for everyone!  This year we are going to surpass our numbers from last year, and we have a “Special”guest who will be joining us as well!  Santa Claus has booked our show for the day during his busiest season, and he is bringing along some of his helpers so that you can have your picture taken with him, cookies and some crafts for the kids! Mark your calendars now, you won’t want to miss this day! All proceeds benefit the Francis Howell High School Band. ~A Princess and Prince Night to Remember The St. Peters Chick-fil-A restaurant located at 6180 Mid Rivers Mall Drive invites children from the community to attend a special night tonight from 5-8pm.  Boys and girls are welcome to dress up like princes and princesses. The guests of honor will be the newly crowned Miss Missouri and Miss Teen Missouri who will also sign autographs. The restaurant will be decorated with a prince and princess theme and will have special tents with various activities outside in the parking lot. Mary Kay cosmetics beauty consultant will provide makeup for princesses.  Nail and face painting will also be available. The St. Charles Community Council will collect new or gently used Prom dresses for the Cinderella Project for needy students. Come have fun with the kids and help raise money for the Cinderella Project which helps needy high school girls receive a free Prom dress

 

~HELPING HANDS FOR THE HOLIDAYS Any and all needy families are invited to attend the Helping Hands for the Holidays on Thursday, December 15th from 4-7pm. No identification or proof of need is required. All who attend will receive the following free assistance: Free Holiday Dinner Buffet, Food and Personal Care Packet Distribution, Health Care Screenings and Services, Winter Clothing, Entertainment from the St. Charles Street Carolers, Free photos with Santa for all children, Games and Activities for children, Transportation from various points in Saint Charles County. The annual canned food drive competition has begun! Have your first hour classes bring in canned food items all this week! All items collected will be donated to the OASIS Food Pantry. ~Congratulations to Ben Minahan, Cameron White and Richard Currie who were selected for the 2012 Missouri All-State Choir. These students were selected to participate based on their high levels of musicianship through 2 rounds of auditions. We are very proud of you. Way to go, guys!!

SPORTS
~Last Thursday night the Boys Varsity soccer team beat FZW for the District Championship win 1-0! What a great game! We now play the Chaminade Red Devils today (Tuesday) @ 2:30pm @ Chaminade and we again need all the fans there we can get. WE NEED EVERYONE TO HELP CHEER US ON TO VICTORY TODAY SO WE CAN ADVANCE!! Hope to see you there! In the meantime–the Varsity boys soccer team are your 2011 GAC SOUTH DISTRICT BOYS SOCCER CHAMPS!!

~Members of the sports management team should stop by the activities office to pick up their passes for club picture day.

~The boys’ swimming and diving team finished 2nd overall at the GAC Conference Championship meet.
As the meet progressed, Howell High and Howell Central battled to the finish in the last event – the 400 Freestyle Relay. In the end, 4 school records and 1 GAC Record and an additional State Qualification was obtained at Thursday night’s championship. Captain Ryan Baker not only won the 200 Individual Medley, but captured a new school record with a time of 1:58.43. Baker also set a new GAC and school record in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:42.34. Sophomore Alex Crawford broke a school record in the 100 backstroke and placed 2nd overall with a time of 55.36. The boys’ 200 Medley Relay captured 4th place, qualifying the team for all 3 relays at the State Championships. The boys’ 400 Freestyle Relay dropped EIGHT seconds to secure a new school record and 2nd place finish with a time of 3:22.75. Relay Team: Alex Crawford, Carson Paull, Ryan Baker and Josh Hempen). Come join the team next Friday and Saturday at the State Championships at the St. Peters’ RecPlex!!

~A huge congratulations to the girls cross country team for taking home its first state trophy since 1999. Great job girls on a fantastic season.

Clubs
~Don’t miss the Fall Play, Distracted, this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Doors open at 6:30 and the play begins at 7:00. Francis Howell’s Limelight theater encourages you attend the play Thursday or Saturday night so that you can support our football Vikings when they take on Fort Zumwalt West this Friday. It will be a great weekend to be a Viking and watch a great victory and a great play.

~The All of Us Club will meet this Thursday, November 10, 2011 to see the play ” Distracted” at 6:45 p.m. til 9:30 p.m.
FHHS will nominate 1 sophomore to attens the Mo Leadership Seminar, June 8-June 10. If you are interested in being considered for this experience, please stop by the guidance office for more information.

~Seniors wishing to be considered for the DAR Good Citizen Award and competing for a $250.00 scholarship should stop by guidance for more information.

~Save the Date on your Calendar! A+ Training will be held on Thursday November 17th from 2:30pm to 3:30pm in the auditorium. Any junior or sophomore student who would like to do their A+ hours during semester two of this school year must obtain this MANDATORY training. Students must attend this training to receive a tutoring placement for second semester. Students who will not be doing their hours during semester two of this year should NOT attend

~The Belcher Award allows one student to represent the district in the state-wide scholarship competition. Students could be awarded $750-$1500 if selected. FHHS is looking for our nominee. Interested seniors should submit an essay to Mrs. Potts in guidance by November 28. The essay topic is: After reviewing the Teaching section of the Vision for Missouri Public Education’s report on Teaching, Learning, and Assessment, please explain how this report will impact the future of public education in Missouri. ~Students that are interested in learning more about Lewis and Clark Technical School see Mrs. Hillis in the Guidance Office for a pass today or tomorrow, they will be on campus tomorrow to present their programs.
