Parking Pass System Unfair to Students

Parking Pass System Unfair to Students
Some people are complaining. Some people are saying it’s unfair. Some people are even enraged. All this unpleasantness has to do with the parking pass system.

The rule is that all seniors receive a parking pass with no strings attached if they would like one. They don’t have to be in a sport, the band, or the recycling club; they simply get a pass because they have seniority.

Although many students, mostly sophomores and juniors, are complaining about the current system, they really need to relax. When they are seniors, after they have put in their time, they too will get a pass with no strings attached.

In fact, students and parents were surveyed at the end of last year to see which of the two options they supported. The numbers of the survey overwhelmingly supported the option of giving priority to all seniors.

Despite the vote, driving to school is a privilege, not a right.

In fact, the current policy states, “A parking permit many be revoked for the following reasons: careless and imprudent handling of a vehicle; illegal unauthorized use of a parking permit; persistent violation of parking polices;excessive tardiness to school; suspension from school; unacceptable behavior; nonpayment of parking fines” (student handbook page 18).

Good things come to those who wait. Patience is a virtue.Victory is sweeter when earned. All of these familiar sayings can be applied to the parking pass decision. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors wait; senior year will be here soon enough.
