New David Guetta Album Falls Flat

David Guetta’s new album Nothing But The Beat, released Aug. 29 stays true to it’s title…because the music is nothing. Just mindless beats.

I produced about 40 songs to get these 13 records together. I wanted every song to be huge, phenomenal. - David Guetta

“I’m not trying to be credible. I’m trying to be incredible…I’m trying to do something different,” Guetta said.

Incredible is a fitting adjective for this album. It is incredibly shallow, weak, and mindless. Even celebrities like Usher, Jennifer Hudson, and Jessie J. could not salvage these tracks with their vocals.

Perhaps this is due to the repetitive lyrics, written as though the producers were middle school boys. The track “I Just Wanna F”, featuring Timbaland and Dev, consists practically of the same statement like it’s a broken record. Clearly these producers do want an F… in song writing.

The majority of the album blurs together in my mind with no song rising above the other. They all sound the same. Same beat, same use of phrases repeatedly, and same commercial appeal.

One song does stand above the other 13 tracks on the album. As a 16-year-old girl, no matter how hard I try, I am not immune to the appeal of the song  “Where Them Girls At” featuring Flo Rida and Nicki Minaj.  Perhaps this is because the song is played every hour on z107.7, but for whatever reason I find myself under the pop culture spell in this case.

As an avid fan of the singer, Sia, it was refreshing to see her featured on the single “Titanium”. The song itself is not unexpected, but hearing Sia’s voice is.

The urban dance thing has become huge. Now I have to push it because my sound has become so popular. It’s a challenge, but I like that. - David Guetta

I’ve never been one for cheap promotional gifts, but I must say, I’m rather thankful for the David Guetta earplugs the record company so graciously supplied me with. Why wait for the clubs to put them in? I’ve decided to get a good use out of the product. By wearing them while listening to Nothing But the Beat.
