Seniors and juniors are competing an annual prank war leading up to homecoming.
Monday night, a group of seniors went and threw toilet paper on the homes of various juniors. The following night, juniors retaliated.
“It’s kind of supposed to be a fun thing,” Deputy Jeff Warner said.
The pranks have been designed with fun in mind, but some pranks have gone too far.
“There was some shrubbery that caught on fire,” Warner said. “The fireworks were basically to wake people up and caught one of the shrubs on fire. It was all extinguished and there were no emergency vehicles called or anything.”
Despite rumors of vandalism charges, Warner says that no one has been charged.
“There was some investigation into vandalism, but it was undetermined who was responsible for the initial event,” Warner said. “Our guys understand that’s apart of the homecoming tradition.”
Many students have been forthcoming with Warner about their experience with the prank war.
“Most of the kids I’ve talked to have said ‘I did someone’s house last night and now they’re going to get mine tonight’,” Warner said. “This is just one of those annual, celebratory things that kids do. As long as they keep it relatively mild.”
Students can be charged with vandalism for permanent property damage. Students can be charged with felonies for breaking-and-entering and property damage costing more than 750 dollars.
