Police detained three students early Tuesday morning. Allegedly the students painted the Hwy 94 and D intersection. The driver of a passing car that was splashed with paint called police with a description and license plate number.

The teens were released to their parents and may face felony charges. Deputies are waiting for more information before proceeding.

The St. Charles County Police Department and MoDOT have been cracking down on students who graffiti the road because of visibility issues and clean-up costs.

MoDOT estimates the clean up cost to be around $7,000. A sign and a signal box were also covered in paint.
