Along with dealing with a new building, students at Howell next year will also have to adapt to a new bell schedule. Though still in it’s finalization stage, the schedule calls for a reduction of lunch periods from the current five to three, allowed by the more spacious cafeteria design in the new building.
“We estimate that the cafeteria can hold around 600 students per shift,” principle Chris Greiner said. “Our goal was to eliminate split lunch periods because they do not provide for the best learning environment.”
Along with less lunch periods, the school day will also begin five minutes earlier and those extra minutes will spread out through out the day. In summery, the day will consist of seven periods, each 52 minutes long, along with three 25 minute lunch periods.
“We’ve meet with the administration in central office, our staff and the students in the Principle Advisory Council and have come to the conclusion that this new schedule, when finalized, will provide the best learning environment for Howell students,” Greiner said.
