Teachers recognized during teacher appreciation week

As teachers continue to receive their various gifts and treats throughout the week, NHS reports that the annual Staff Appreciation Week is going well.
For those unaware, Staff Appreciation Week is an event sponsored by NHS in which its members bring a teacher a small gift or treat each day of the week. Monday an apple, Tuesday a plant, Wednesday a healthy snack, Thursday a sweet snack, and Friday some sort of office supplies. Every teacher is covered by an NHS member so that no one is left out.

“It’s been going on for years and it’s become a kind of yearly tradition,” NHS sponsor Carolyn Bien said. “I’ve been the sponsor for 18 years and have been teaching for 27 years and it’s been a big thing at school during that whole time.”

So far the week is going exactly according to plan and there have been almost no difficulties.

“We are doing well. We only had four out of about 150 students not attend to their teachers and a few of them were sick so they were excused. Luckily we have students sign up to bring extra items just in case,” Bien said.

Many teachers greatly appreciate and look forward to this week and it seems to be one of the highlights of their year.

“It’s nice for a club to acknowledge the hard work we put in each day as teachers. We like being appreciated,” business teacher Sandi Sewing said. “I like the flowers because it’s something that stays with me for a long time and is a nice reminder.”

Students will finish out their week of appreciation and they hope it continues smoothly.
