Move over other clubs at Howell: the newest club at Howell is coming through. Multi-cultural student union is the only club at Howell to ever be based off of race. The first meeting was held Wednesday, Nov. 10.
“The purpose of starting the club was to get all students of different races together so we could be there for each other. I want us to bring down stereotypes and possibly bring down bullying,” leader Jazmin Dansberry said.
The meeting was directed by counselor Mrs. Hasty and selected leaders.
“It originally started with just including the black students, but then we wanted to branch out and include people from all cultures. We feel every one’s culture should be represented,” leader Dion Tyler said.
For their first meeting, the attendance list was impressive. All future meetings will be held once a month in the auditorium during Howell time. Everyone who is interested is welcome to attend.
“I was very pleased with how many students showed up. I hope that it grows even bigger,” Dansberry said.
For their first act, the club would like to host a toy drive.
“We want to have a toy drive because of the holiday’s coming,” Tyler said.
Continue to watch for the many things this club has planned to do.
“There is definitely more activities to come,” Dansberry said.
