The Grim Reaper visited Howell. Monday, Nov 1, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) sponsored a day of the dead where a Grim Reaper walked around the school “killing” people. The “kills” occurred every fifteen minutes and represented the statistic that every fifteen minutes someone is killed in a drunk driving accident. The Grim Reaper only “killed” students who signed up.
“My sister Danielle signed me up for this,” freshman Lindsey Smith said. “She told me I was doing this so I didn’t really have a choice.”
The student dressed up as the Grim Reaper, senior Alexandra Schad, took Monday off, and pulled kids out of classes. The dead painted their faces with dark eyes and tear drops.
“I knew it was coming around the end of second hour,” Smith said.
The students also had to wear signs around their necks to show statistics about teen drinking and driving. This promoted the serious issue of drinking and driving in America.
“I’m supposed to walk around and not talk. I don’t know much more about it though,” Smith said.
The day of the dead takes place every year and is SADD’s way of reaching out to students to show how important the issue of drinking and driving of teens is in today’s society.
