Varsity girls volleyball, team to watch

Cheers filled the air as the last point was scored to end the Varsity Girls Volleyball game against Fort Zumwalt North Aug 31, bringing their record to 1-1 after a three set loss to Marquette in the home opener.

Though the team lost four seniors, they have five returning starters and were ranked in the top 100 in the nation for preseason rankings. The St. Louis Post Dispatch also put the Vikings as one of the top five teams to watch this season.

“We have strengthened our schedule so we have a tough but exciting road ahead of us,” head coach Justin Young said.

Pivotal upcoming matches include district rivals Central and North on Sept 23 and Oct 7 respectively. Also matches against volleyball powerhouses Incarnate Word Academy Sept 13 and St. Joseph’s Academy Sept 15, will prove to be tests to the team.

“I think this year we are a better team, but we know we have a long to weather in order to have success in the post season,” Young said.
