Winter drumline is a sport for people who love music and enjoy engaging with others. These shared commonalities between everybody involved result in determination and dedication, allowing the drumline members to combine their skills and achieve greatness. This commitment and effort showed at the CSPA Winter Drumline competition on April 4, where they not only received first place, but they broke a school record with a score of 90.55.
Receiving a score that they worked so hard for proved how much time and effort the students put into the show. It truly affected the drumline members’ mindsets and showed them that constantly being present for practice really pays off in the end.
Senior Ingrid Richard, who plays quads in the drumline, understands how impactful dedication to the sport really is.
“It showed that all of our hard work was being scored accordingly, and we felt good about ourselves [because of] the effort we put into the season,” Richard said.
Sophomore Jackson Dohle, a snare player within the drumline, loves being involved in this sport, especially because of the people who surround him. Since the people are so important to the drumline, it’s the connection that allows them to achieve their goals and go beyond.
“I’ll miss the people because we have a lot of really cool people in the drumline this year, especially the staff,” Dohle said. “[This competition] was really a big breakthrough for us.”
Winter drumline may not be the most well-known sport, but everybody involved is valuable and makes a big difference to the performance, helping it all come together. The commitment and dedication are essential, which allowed the drumline to earn a record-breaking score and place first at the CSPA competition.
