The Color Guard program starts off the season with choreography and uses teamwork and time management skills in hopes to win another state-wide competition.
“[Winning state] made me feel like what I was doing actually makes a difference,” senior Sophia Bonofiglio said.
For students like Bonofiglio, a color guard co-captain, the program provides a sense of accomplishment.
Program director Dale Robinson said he shares that sense of accomplishment..
“I was very proud as the director,” Robinson said. “For us to achieve at that high of a level just as fast as we did is amazing.”
Beyond the feeling of accomplishment, color guard members also gain crucial time-management skills. Robinson said the demands of the program require students to juggle multiple responsibilities, including practice schedules and schoolwork.
“It teaches them time-management skills to manage a hectic schedule with school as well as with practice schedules,” Robinson said.
For Bonofiglio, this season’s experience is not just about performance, it’s about growing as individuals and learning life skills that members will continue to use in their professional lives.
“You have to learn how to manage your time if you want to keep your grades up,” Bonofiglio said.
