On January 26-27, the boys’ wrestling team participated in the biggest wrestling tournament in the state of Missouri, the Kyle Thrasher Memorial Tournament. FHHS hosted the competition and put a lot of time into the preparations.
On top of physical preparation, there is also a lot of mental preparation that takes place to get ready for a tournament.
“[To prepare for this tournament], just make sure your mind is in the right place. It’s kind of physical too, but it’s mostly the mental part that is the biggest part of being prepared. It’s also about not being nervous or deterred about who you are going to go against,” sophomore Cayden Duncan said.
Duncan placed sixth in his class after many wins in the early rounds of the tournament. He bounced back after a tough loss in the quarter-final round with a win in consolation round 5.
“[My favorite memory] was probably pinning that St. Clair kid because he was way bigger than me and he thought he could just throw me around. But I ended up reversing it,” Duncan said.
Sophomore Chevy Rosales placed fifth in the 132-pound weight class.
“I feel pretty good about my performance. I feel like there is work that I still need to do and unfinished business,” Rosales said.
Rosales said he hopes to handle that unfinished business by the end of the season.
“My goals for the rest of [the] season is to place at state and make it on the podium because I fell short last year,” Rosales said.
