The marching band traveled to Memphis to compete against more advanced teams, such as state champions.
“We were very happy with our performance,” band director Chris Miller said.
Seventy nine students, six staff and sixty family members attended this competition, Oct. 7.
“We got to play in a great big college stadium, we saw lots of great bands and we got better as an ensemble. It was all very exciting,” Miller said.
The band placed fourth in their division and 19th against all 24 top teams.
“Our goal is to improve every time we perform,” Miller said.
Some band students say the highlight of the trip was competing; however, some say it was the trip itself.
“I like that we get to travel a lot, I’ve traveled more than I have in my entire life for a band. you get to see some really cool things. I would highly recommend joining a band,” sophomore Kaydence Frankenhauser said.
Now that Memphis is over, there are two more competitions for the season. Miller has high hopes for the remaining competitions.
“I never like to give predictions, because we are judged by humans, and everyone has their personal biases. You are supposed to judge what we do, compared to what the judging sheets ask for in the different areas of concentration. However, judging is very subjective and you just never know what you are going to get. So, I try to stay out of the guessing game,” Miller said.
