Over fall break on Oct. 16-17, girls varsity golf traveled to Silo Ridge Country Club in Bolivar, Missouri to compete in the MSHSAA State Championship after qualifying as a team in the district championship. The team came in third place following the 2022 season where they placed fourth.
Kinsley Walton, 9, competed for the first time at state where she came in 44, while Jordan Campbell,11, placing 36th, Brooke Inchiostro,12, placing 23rd, and Brooke Lewis,12, placing 66th, all returned to compete for the second time. Hannah Mottert,11, returned to state for the third time where she finished in sixth place.
“In the beginning, I didn’t expect to ever make it to state. I didn’t think that I was gonna be on varsity. So I didn’t feel a lot of pressure. I just felt like I needed to do my best and see what happens,” freshman Kinsley Walton said.
As the season went on, the girls gained confidence and improved their skills in order to help them reach the top three. Emotions were strong as new opportunities began and seasons ended.
“This year I felt more relaxed, but I also felt more sad because it was my senior year and my last thing,” senior Brooke Lewis said.
