“Breaking my nose from diving kind of shaped who I am and was kind of its own experience because a lot of people were concerned a lot of people were so helpful and caring. And I made a lot of connections through diving too. And breaking my nose just set me back and I couldn’t I didn’t become as successful as I could have been. It all went down. We had a meet at Parkway West and the pool was only 10 feet deep and all dive pools are supposed to be 12 feet deep. And I dove and as I went in, I shot straight to the bottom and hit my face on the bottom of the pool and broke my nose and then I had to go to the ER and get surgery,” Smith said.
