The varsity boys swim team is gearing up for the GAC conference meet, which they have won 5 years in a row. Attendees of this meet span the St. Louis metropolitan area, including Timberland, Francis Howell North, and Liberty (Wentzville).
“If Howell is to get 1st place in GAC’s this year, this will be their 6th year in a row as GAC champions. That seems to be our team goal, as it would be an amazing accomplishment,” assistant coach Katelyn Schenk said.
Several Howell swimmers have achieved state-qualifying times so far this season. One of the team’s biggest competitors, Liberty, has already been defeated at two meets.
“I’m excited for championships,” junior Aidan Frost said. “We practice five days a week, working hard,”
The GAC is poised to take place Oct. 26 through Nov. 1, following a meet against Fort Zumwalt West on October 12. For the past eight meets, Francis Howell has won.
“I say our team is our biggest competition – just ourselves,” junior Max Newman said.
In 2022, the Vikings ended the swim season with an 11-3 record. Currently, they are at a 10-3 standing.
“We are very proud of how our boys work together and encourage each other in and out of the pool,” Schenk said, “They are a great group to coach.”
