Tuesday, Aug. 23, varsity girls volleyball held a jamboree against St. Dominic, Ladue, and Kirkwood, marking the beginning of their season.
The jamboree held two courts simultaneously. Each match consisted of three sets to 15 points with a guaranteed third set. Howells first opponent was Kirkwood, in which they won 2-1. After that, they took on the team that defeated them in districts last year, St. Dominic, beating them 2-1. To wrap up the night, the girls played Ladue and prevailed 2-1.
The volleyball jamboree is one of the most attended games of the year for the program. This year, two students were named “Fan of The Game” at the jamboree, senior Sam Huelsing, and junior Cam Cason. Last year, Huelsing received a MSHAA award for his commitment to the volleyball program.
“It means a lot to be recognized and I really appreciate it. I’m just doing what I love, and supporting our school as much as I can,” Huelsing said.
