Thursday, Oct. 27, Varsity softball competes in the State Semifinals in Springfield, Missouri. The team won 10-0 against Liberty (KC) to advance to the State Championship Friday, Oct. 28. The team faced Blue Springs South and lost the title, 10-2.

“It was such an honor to be a freshman and experience varsity softball and Final Four. It was a journey I will never forget and I’m glad that I got to compete against the top teams in the state. I guarantee that we will be back in Springfield again,” Freshman Kenzie Ellison said.

This season the team set the program record for consecutive wins, with 15, and wins in a season, with 28. They also appeared in their first State title game and fourth appearance in the Final Four.

“It feels amazing to have set many records this year. It’s a hard feeling to explain but the support we received this season was insane. Knowing that this team is the best that has even walked through these halls is something special,” senior Sophia Birkenholz said. “Being the first team in the State Championship was unreal. It’s a lot to take in at once and we were nervous in warmups. Once we got onto the field everything else went away and we just played like it was another game. We wish it could’ve turned out differently but nonetheless, it was a great experience for everyone. It’s something that I’ll cherish forever and continue to look back on.”
