Howell hosted the annual FHSD Band Preview, Aug. 30. This event showcased three bands, Howell, Central, and North. It gives family and friends an early peek at the shows these bands will be competing with in the fall. Howell’s show is titled Upon Orion’s Belt, with the uniforms following the same theme. Sophomore Jaina Woods is one of the many soloists. 

“I was slightly nervous to begin with, but once I started marching I just pretended it was another practice and the nerves went away,” Woods said, “I didn’t really mind if I messed up during my solo, after all, it was only a preview.”

The Viking Band is directed by Chris Miller. He has been directing at Howell since 2003. 

“The band played very well and I was happy with their performance. I think we are set up for success,” Miller said. “We have themed uniform tops and lots of visual props to really step up the design game. I think people are really going to love what we are putting out there.”
