Varsity Softball Wins Union Tournament

Varsity Softball kicks off the 2022 season by going 4-0 at the Union Tournament, to bring home the championship. Softball took down Perryville, 5-0, and Union, 18-2, Friday night while continuing to win on Saturday, 20-0 against Cuba, and 10-0 in the championship game against Borgia.

“Communication and having each other’s back was a huge factor in our success this past weekend,” senior Sofia Birkenholz said. “Making sure everyone was in it together as well as picking each other up is one of the best things we do as a team.”

Junior Lorin Boutte and sophomore Elliette Glass, pitched a combined no-hitter in the championship game. Boutte went five innings, allowing zero runs, striking out ten, and walking zero. Glass pitched two innings in relief.

“I think that the chemistry between the girls has helped us work as a team on and off the field this season,” junior Lilly Murphy said. “Our first tournament in Union was the best showcasing of how our skills work together and lead us to success.”
