Senior Hayden Trezek finishes second at state
Senior Hayden Trezek advanced to the state wrestling title match, Feb. 19, at the MSHSAA Championships. Trezek became Howell’s 59th state finalist in program history and extended the streak of having a state medalist for 43 straight years. Trezek took second in the state championship match 2-0. Trezek finished the season 35-6.
“It was bittersweet. I was proud of how far I had gone, but also a little disappointed to end my high school career on a loss. My goal was to win state, and I think shooting for that highest goal helped me to do as well as I did. In the end though, I was shocked by how fast it was all over: the tournament, the season, and my high-school career,” Trezek said.
The wrestling programs qualified five students for the state tournament including Trezek and senior Chris Gibson; juniors Cooper Corley and Irvin Heggermann; and freshman Bailey Bridges.
