Boys wrestling takes sixth at St. Charles West tournament
Boys wrestling finished sixth at the one-day St.Charles West tournament, Jan. 17. Nine boys placed top eight in their weight class. Senior Hayden Trezek won the championship, weighing in at 170lbs. Trezek’s senior record is 23-2.
“This season my major goal is winning state. I want to compete in the state finals, and win the national title,” Trezek said. “I’ve been taking extra time on the mat, wrestling six or seven days a week, taking care of business.”
Seniors Micheal Roberts (20-5), Judah Johnson (21-6) along with junior Cooper Corley (23-7) contributed to the team’s overall score with second and third place wins.
Johnson, Corley, and Trezek later won championships at the two-day MICDS tournament. The team finished in third place.
“It’s all about progress.” Varsity wrestling coach Josh Sampo said. “I’m very proud of the effort I’m getting from the young men and the progress that we’re making in the program. I couldn’t ask for better kids.”
