Mask Mandate Returns to FHSD
Friday, Jan. 7, the Board of Education called an emergency meeting to discuss COVID-19’s impact across the district. After returning from winter break, the district averaged more than 200 staff members absent on a daily basis as well as a total of 696 positive cases among students and staff. After considering the data presented, the board voted 7-0 to temporarily require masks. They made this response in an effort to keep schools open while ensuring students and staff remain healthy and able to attend school and work. Beginning Monday, Jan. 10, through Friday, Jan. 21, masks will be required for all students, staff, and visitors in district facilities during school hours. This includes all grade levels. The updated protocols will be in effect through Friday, Jan. 21, and the board will re-evaluate the measures at the next scheduled board meeting, Jan. 20.
