Marching Band Takes 5th at Lafayette Contest of Champions
The Viking Marching Band competed at the Lafayette Contest of Champions Saturday, Sept. 25. The band earned four awards for their band performance entitled “Kusama,” receiving awards for second place in their division for “Outstanding Music”, “Outstanding General Effect”, and fifth place in finals.
Senior Kendal Abeln earned the “Outstanding General Effect” trophy for the Vikings by winning a game of rock paper scissors to decide a tiebreaker on who would be mailed the trophy and who would immediately receive it and take it home that night.
“The whole game was really exciting. All of the school and parents were watching us and I won the game when it counted. The whole crowd went wild,” Abeln said. The marching band will compete next at the Ft. Zumwalt North River City Showcase Oct. 9.
