The Price of Prom

Tickets. Dresses. Flowers. All things that make prom quite an expensive night.

A dress is arguably the most important part in a girl’s preparation for prom. However, they are spending anywhere between $100-$600 dollars on a dress for the night. When including shoes and jewelry, the price climbs higher.

Senior Regan Glen spent $1,000 on her dress.

“My mom wanted to spend a lot of money on my dress,” Glenn said.

Renting a nice suit can cost a minimum of $100, while buying one can easily cost $300-$1000.

“I rented my suit for $195,” junior Jackson Kite said. “I’m in high school, and I don’t have that money.”

Prom tickets were $55 on sale, and $60 without. Tickets sold out before the deadline, capped at 700 attendees.

This price did not include dinner, but did include a prom favor of a bluetooth speaker.

“We’re going to a smaller venue, for a higher price, and no dinner,” senior Avram Stopke said.

“Our prom is never like it is in the movies,” senior Hunter Tosto said, “especially since we’re in a tiny country club, and there’s not enough tickets for everyone to go. I think the tickets should have been cheaper.”

Instead of dinner, appetizers will be served.

“If we have appetizers, they can eat throughout the night, instead of having to wait 45 minutes for dinner,” junior Megan Bonham said. “There’s no nuts, and vegetarian and vegan options.”

The convention center was the original venue for prom.

“They gave us dates really late in the year,” junior class sponsor Michele Heskin said. “Old Hickory was the only one that could hold us that was within our price range. Everything should be fine.”
