When it comes to movies, summer always has some of the best titles. From upcoming sequels to something new and exciting, summer has it all, and these are the ones that are definitely worth seeing.

From Disney, we have Cars 3, from director Brian Fee, the sequel nobody really asked for. It’s a darker toned and interesting story of Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson), who is trying to be the best racer again, even with the odds completely against him. Showing the struggle of a once well loved racer, it’s a highly anticipated movie. Also from Disney we see Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tells No Tales, from director Joachim Ronning. This time around we see a group of ghost pirates, whose goal is to destroy all living pirates at sea, especially Captain Jack (Johnny Depp). Looking for a way to stop them, Jack goes after the legendary Trident of Poseidon, in hopes to save him and his fellow pirates’ lives.

In terms of comic book films, from Marvel we see the highly anticipated Spider-Man: Homecoming, directed by Jon Watts, taking place directly after Captain America: Civil War. This is the third time we’ve seen a new film series based around this beloved character, and this is being revered as Spider-Man (Tom Holland) done right for once, as this is promising to be one of the most comic-accurate films as of late, with villains we’ve never seen on screen before, like The Vulture (Michael Keaton) and Shocker (Bokeem Woodbine), two of the biggest antagonists of Spider-Man. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) also plays an important role, being a mentor to our young Peter Parker. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, directed by James Gunn, also comes out, a sequel to the 2014 film. Following the Guardians, we see our main hero Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) looking for the truth of his parents, which ends up causing a lot of chaos, and lots of characters come along for the ride. From DC, we finally get Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins, which tells the backstory of one of DC’s most prominent characters, Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). This is a step in the right direction for DC, as lately they have been lacking quality in their past two films, but this looks good, and will hopefully get more female led superhero films to come out.

Following those, we also see the fifth installment in the Transformers franchise, Transformers: The Last Knight, directed by Michael Bay. It follows the leader of the Autobots Optimus Prime, searching for a way to save his homeworld Cybertron, which he finds out beforehand that he was responsible for destroying. Although this will definitely follow the same action format that all of these movies have followed, initially it does seem better than the rest. It seems like more than an attempt to make a lot of money, and actually have a good storyline to it.

Finally, we have another sequel in the long running Alien series, Alien: Covenant, directed by Ridley Scott. Following Prometheus, these group of people go searching for a planet that has yet to be discovered yet. They then find an absolute paradise, somewhere completely untouched by humans. Unfortunately it isn’t the paradise they think it is, as they find aliens who then proceed to hunt them down. Our main heroes have to get out of there as soon as possible, before it’s too late.
