Winning and Saving Lives

Junior Lilly Apperson had just finished her last race at the St. Charles meet when she noticed something strange. One of the St. Charles High School swimmers kept holding onto the lane rope.

“I noticed it while I was swimming, but didn’t think much of it, I kind of thought she was just tired and needed to take a breather, but it turned out differently,” Apperson said.

Once Lilly finished her race she continued to watch that swimmer to make sure she was fine. Suddenly the St. Charles High School swimmer had went under and started to drown, so Lilly dove in after her.

“I felt like I had to I was basically watching a girl drown right in front of my eyes,” Apperson said.

Apperson pulled the girl out from under the water, and helped her to the lane rope until the Lifeguard got to her.

“It was a great feeling to know that as a team we won the meet, but individually I was able to possibly avoid a scary moment for the St.Charles High School swimmer,” Apperson said.
