The District’s Board of Education has elected to adopt a new calendar for the 2011-2012 school year. The new schedule was supported by Board members 4-1.
Francis Howell elementary schools have been on a year-round schedule since 1969. This will no longer be the case. The first day of school for the upcoming year will be Aug. 8 for both elementary and secondary school levels.
This means high school students will return to school approximately one week earlier. The fall break will be slightly extended, while a week will be added to the current spring break. The change will also result in one million dollars in savings from transportation costs.
All students will be on a modified traditional schedule, meaning there will be several shorter breaks throughout the school year, that a traditional schedule does not allot.
